It took Punky the Monkey 23 years and 7.3 million characters to produce the song that is sweeping the charts and dance clubs in Britain. "Mornin luv, coffee pot" is repeated 57 times throughout the speaker busting single.

"People really have fun with it-most love coffee in the morning, and by now, everyone knows it was written by a monkey," states one teenage fan. "It really has everyone talking," she continues.

A scientist and zoologist, Kim Simon has been with Punky and the study since its inception 24 years ago. "Punky actually seems proud," Simon says. "I think she knows something is brewing, since it has been extra bananas ever since the song was tagged for recording, just seven weeks ago."

According to Simon, they thought they might have had a hit on their hands just nine years into the study when computers recognized a string of five somewhat commonly-themed words, but two of those words were "bum" and "shag." It was ruled not quite song material and also vulgar, so it was back to the keyboard for Punky. "The last song was kinda funny, but Punky showed her dirty side, and it really was nothing compared to this work of art," concludes Simon.
